GUIDE TO SANITIZING SURFACES

One of the number one concerns our industry  will have to address is cleanliness and making guests feel safe in their environment. This certainly presents a challenge in a hotel as there are so many different types of surfaces that react differently to various cleaning agents. Furniture represents a significant investment for owners and they will want to avoid damaging surfaces through increased cleaning
We reached out to our suppliers and created a guide for how to properly sanitize various types of surfaces commonly used in hotel furniture.


Wood Veneer, Solid Wood

OK for DISINFECTING
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Vinegar and water (2:1 ratio)
• Pine-Sol multi-surface
OK TO USE for CLEANING
• Soap and water
DO NOT USE for DISINEFECTING or CLEANING
• Bleach or Alcohol based cleaners
• Clorox or Lysol wipes or sprays


HIGH PRESSURE LAMINATE

OK for DISINFECTING or CLEANING
• Clorox Healthcare, Windex, Glass Plus,
• Mr. Clean, Formula 409, Purell Multi-Surface, Isopropyl Alcohol
USE with CAUTION and avoid PROLONGED EXPOSURE
• Alcohol or Bleach
• Peroxide
• Strong acids (phosphoric acid is often used, very low pH values)
• Strong bases (sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, high pH values


ENGINEERED STONE

DISINFECTING
• Alkaline based solutions
• Mean Grean Antibacterial or Pine Power
• Krud Kutter Heavy Duty Cleaner & Disinfectant
OK TO USE for CLEANING
• Soap and water
• Simple Green Stone Polish or Bar Keeper Friend
DO NOT USE for DISINFECTING or CLEANING
• Acid or Citrus based cleaners
• Disinfecting wipes (Clorex, Lysol, etc)
• Windex, Vinegar, or Bleach
• Magic Erasers


NATURAL STONE

DISINFECTING
• Spray 70% isopropyl alcohol
• Allow to sit 3-5 minutes
• Rinse with water and dry with microfiber cloth
OK TO USE for CLEANING
• Soap and water
• Simple Green Stone Polish or Bar Keeper Friend
DO NOT USE for DISINFECTING or CLEANING
• Acid or Citrus based cleaners
• Disinfecting wipes (Clorex, Lysol, etc)
• Windex, Vinegar, or Bleach
• Magic Erasers
